Affordable Anti-Aging Regiments

In a sea of skin care product choices it’s difficult to discern what products and ingredients are best for anti-aging regiments. Add to that, a declining economy and consumers want to know more then ever their hard earned dollars are being spent wisely.

There are many ingredients to choose from and every skin care provider will tell you why you should purchase their product. The ingredient retinol is still one of the biggest bangs for the buck. Retinol increases collagen production making skin appear thicker and firmer while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin clarity and tone is evened out providing more uniformity with increased brightness. Retinol is also excellent for acne-prone skin as it is a vitamin A derivative. Most complaints associated with retinol are its propensity to be irritating. Even using retinol 2 to 3 times a week will yield results. Companies like Avene have created Retrinal that is powerful and without irritation. Another company Ayur-Medic has a Retinol Cream with three different pro-retinoic acids that are time released allowing for a gentle delivery of the active ingredient retinol.

Though not inexpensive, growth factors have become the rage. Growth factors, not to be confused with growth hormones, are the latest in biotechnological research that is involved in cell regeneration, collagen, and elastin production. These functions help the skin stay smooth, firm and taut. As skin ages and suffers from sun exposure the skin produces fewer growth factors.

Benev manufactures a product called GF Complex that contains epidermal and fibroblast growth factors to replenish the skin’s supply of these crucial proteins and fight the signs of aging. Another popular product Benev carries is GF-DNA Serum which contains the above growth factors as well as three nourishing plant extracts that repair damage to the DNA strand in our skin, enhancing a more youthful complexion and diminishing signs of aging.

IS Clinical, another manufacturer, offers a moisturizer called Youth Complexthat includes potent antioxidants, natural hydrators and iNNOVASE bio-complex. Youth Complex provides rapid hydration for plumping fine lines and wrinkles and promotes controlled exfoliation, and stimulates collagen and elastin.

Sunscreen continues to be one of the most important steps in skin care for maintaining young looking and healthy skin. It has historically been the step most people eliminate and it’s usually due to the fact that it feels heavy and greasy and clogs the pores. Sunscreens have come a long way with insuring they are oil free or non-comedogenic (will not clog pores). Cosmetically they have improved greatly, as they feel like a light moisturizer. The skin care company Revision makes a 45 SPF that has Intellishade technology. Within 5 minutes the sunscreen turns to your skin shade no matter what your skin tone or color is. It is light weight, offers UVA&UVB protection and delivers peptides that reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Many of my clients choose it for make up. Glytone has a sunscreen lotion that is a SPF 40>and is paraben free, fragrance free, non-irritating, oil free, non-comedogenic and mineral based with micronized zinc oxide. Micronized means that unlike years ago where zinc based sunscreen left a white film residue the micronized-sunscreen is clear when absorbed into the skin.

If you want a sunscreen that does double duty then you might like Jan Marini’s Antioxidant Daily Face Protection SPF 30 /Waterproof. Physicians and scientific researchers now recognize the tremendous preventative and anti-aging potential of antioxidants when applied to the surface of the skin. Antioxidants aid in preventing cellular damage and aging. Most importantly, when choosing a sunscreen, look for labels that say broad spectrum which insures UVA and UVB protection.
